May 31 - Blue Ridge Parkway
The roads today took us up one side and down the other side
of the Blue Ridge Parkway. We got to over 3,000' elevation and the road was narrow and windy. Boone is a
very pretty ski resort town, which would be spectacular in the winter. Unfortunately there wasn’t anywhere for us to
pull off and investigate on foot so we contented ourselves with driving through
the guts of it anyway.
Stayed in another dodgy campgpround – Carrollwood, near
Galax, it rained as we arrived so we decided we would live with it. Even though we felt ripped off at $35/night
with minimal facilities, well those you would want to use - the toilets had
shower curtains for doors! Couldn’t even drive around the property due
to the low slung cables which we couldn’t fit under! So there was a bit of jiggery pokery to get
onto our site for the night. Spent some of the evening working through the plan of attack
for tomorrow… Most of the highlights are not RV friendly and are only open Tuesday to Sunday with all the music happening at the weekends so we will be giving them a
miss.
Next thing we know you'll be writing a travel guide "How To Find the Best RV Parks in the USA"!
