Tuesday 21 July Wisconsin Dells

Beautiful day, gonna be high 80’s again.  We head north on the I94 to Wisconsin Dells, the water and theme park centre of the State - never seen so many roller coasters, fun rides and water slides in one town.  The Dells is situated on Lake Delton and along the Wisconsin River so lots of water area and a real tourist destination.  We hooked into the Dells Army Duck Tour, never been on one of those before.  Ducks were used in WWII for amphibious assault landings and to transport army supplies ship to shore.  They are a pretty cool piece of kit, lots of fun and our tour guide was great!  Wisconsin has the largest fleet of these in the world and the Ducks we rode in are WWII originals.  The sandstone rock formations we saw on the tour (purported to be 14,000 years old) are very fragile.  Nobody is allowed to even touch them as they would crumble back to sand - but we got pretty close to the bluffs.

After a wander up the main street and along the river walk we found a lovely little bar overlooking the river to have a drink.  The daily special is the famous $4 Margarita, just the right refreshing drink for a hot afternoon. It was so nice we decide to eat here too, so rescued the car from the meter parking on the main street, parked in the pub carpark and enjoyed a leisurely meal - and another Margarita!
