27 May Modoc Campground, South Carolina

Earlier start today, trying to get into a better routine in the mornings - it is so easy to stooge around and before you know it – it is 10am and half the day is gone.  Heading north today to try one of the ‘Army Corps of Engineers’ campgrounds, these are govt. run public recreation facilities.  By good navigation skills we found one in Modoc, on the 70 acre Thurmond Lake, South Carolina - and it is absolutely stunning!  The most gorgeous site we have stayed at to date.   We are on a waterfront site, on a peninsula extending out into the lake with amazing views of a very beautiful, calm lake. It is about 25C and we have been for a couple of swims from our private beach.  There are some high end holiday homes on one of the other peninsulas and there have been a few recreation fishing boats coming and going.  It’s very reasonable to stay here $26/night.  If the other campgrounds are as wonderful as this, we will be in heaven.

28 May Modoc - It is so beautiful here we are staying another day. During the night we had the most amazing lightning show and thunder to rock your socks off, lasted for a good couple of hours.  Woke to sunshine again and spent our second day lazing around in the sun and doing some R&M.  I had to bike a mile up the road to the office to pay for the additional night, it was hard hot work, didn't notice the slope when we drove it in the RV!
