August 14, Friday

Finally got on the road after figuring out where to reset the circuit breaker which blew when we had the TV,  jug, hair dryer and aircon all on at the same time.  It’s not in the electrics cupboard as you would expect, it’s outside in the inverter locker! Huh!

Stopped enroute at a middle sized town called Ottumwa to visit Walmart.  We saw Walmartians today which always makes it more worthwhile.  Got new cereal plates  : )  Then we ended up at this nearly vacant campground at the Old Thresher Museum at Mt Pleasant.  On seeing it we decided we wouldn’t stay here, not much shade, no swimming and it’s hot.  There was no one around but just as we were googling our next option, three good ole boys rock up in their golf cart to help us.  We feel we have to stay now, so here we are.  But for only $20 cash we get 50amp power and water on a rather unlevel site but close to the bathrooms. Plus it’s next to a cemetary – hope we don’t get any visitors tonight, or at least not ones we don’t know!   The blurb said 1,200 sites available but we can see only another ten or so RV’s.  On further investigation it seems this whole park only comes alive at Christmas and for their annual thresher celebration - coming up at the beginning of September when they will have every site full and if you want to stay here for that you need to reserve a site and pay your $400 in advance.  $20 is sounding extra reasonable right now.
