August 21, Friday
We thought we pretty much had every thing we needed in our ‘home away from home’. But - driving today we saw the ultimate! Coming the other way on the I 75 we saw a motorhome towing a trailer with a baby helicopter on it! Of course Kim wants that!
We head further south and turn west to Lake
Cumberland aiming for the Cumberland Falls State Park which is has a waterfall
known to be the Niagara of Kentucky.
Unfortunately it didn’t work out, after driving ten miles on a skinny windy road, the sites are way too small for us, so
we move on to Laurel Lake in the Daniel Boone National Forrest - Holly Bay Campground. They put us on an 85 foot site, nice! It’s surrounded by trees, too many actually
for us as we like the sun but we can walk/bike to the lake from here.
The lake has lots of house boats, usually on
pontoons and right in front of our site we see lots of boats with inboards being trailered down to
the ramp.

We have been warned to be careful here to keep food locked away as they have seen black bears in the vicinity and also watch out for snakes, there are three poisonous snakes...

We decide we don’t actually like out site very much, it is
way too shady for us sun loving kiwis.
So we take the bikes and investigate some other options. The staff were quite concerned we weren’t
100% happy and were very helpful in allowing us to move to another site, which
is much better. Way more sun and a lot
quieter, not the main thoroughfare down to the boat ramp.
We didn’t laze in the sun all day - did some chores, Kim
cleaned the engine and I focussed on carpet cleaning.
Aug 23, Sunday
Pretty much the same as yesterday….. Had a fire though to toast our marshmallows
once it got dark.
